As our tablets, computers and televisions become more connected, we are beginning to see a blending of purposes. I can watch TV on my computer or iPad or I can use my big flat screen to read my favorite blogs. So the Xfinity app for iPad seems more or less an inevitability.
In practice, it is a well-designed and useful piece of software that allows me to see a customized grid of television offerings, a complete list of on demand programming and a decent library of "play now" content that will stream right to the iPad.
The channel listings can be customized to my local channels, filtered through my favorite channels list and a simple touch of the screen will either change the channel on my TV or tell the DVR to record the show for later. It is simple and elegant, which is what I look for in an app.
It also doesn't clog up the interface with unnecessary stuff like emails from Comcast or notices that my bill is due (they have a different app for that). Most importantly, it works like it should and doesn't try to do the things it shouldn't.
