Star Trek Communicator is tablet certified. I drive my wife crazy with this app. Over the weekend she tried to wrestle the iPhone away from me and screaming 'NO MORE RED ALERTS!!!'. 

Available for both Android and iOS. Sound effects and design is the best. The is no fanboy app. 

Oh No got to go! Klingons just showed up and they look pissed! 'RAISE SHIELDS!'

When I was in the corporate life working for THE MAN I drove a bunch. Some times it felt like I was in the car more than I was at my desk. An insane amount of my time was behind the wheel of a car. In order to keep sane I started listening to audio books. I would stop by a local Cracker Barrel and get a couple of books on tape or CD. It really helped with the monotony. 

I listened to hundreds of books on tape over the years. The biggest problem was hauling around all the tapes and CDs as well as returning them to Cracker Barrel. As a tech junkie I was always searching for a way to reduce the cost, storage, and logistics of books on tape. My research took me to Audible.

Audible does for audio books what Kindle does for print. It is owned by Amazon. It lets you download audio books to your tablet or smartphone then play them via Bluetooth or aux cable. The selection of tittles is extensive. The audio quality is the best. Downloads are surprisingly fast.

If you love the Kindle I think you will love Audible.

I am a big fan of HBO. I have been since the Sopranos debuted in 1999. The best TV made in the last 25 years is on HBO.

HBO GO is the on demand video app for HBO subscribers. It has a vast archive of shows that are instantly available. Shows include Band of Brothers, From the Earth to the Moon, The Sopranos, Sex in the City, The Girls, Dead Wood, True Blood, and Six Feet Under. All of the movies that are playing on HBO in any particular month are also available. HBO's famous stand up comedy specials are also in the archive.

You must have a wifi connection to use the app. 3G connections will not be able to handle the data load. The videos on the app are well organized and easy to find. There are many view options. 

You can even play the videos over your Apple TV. They run super smooth. Enjoy!

We here at tablet certified are a big fan of the iPad version of the Netflix app. The Android version is every bit as good. You must have  a wifi connection it won't work over 3G.

I am running it on my trusty Galaxy Tab 2 (high end android tablet) but I after researching online people love this app on the Kindle Fire as well. This app has had several updates recently so if you tried it in the past it might be worth a second look.

I like the dashboard much better than the iPad version. Lots more choices right off the bat.

If you are sharing a wifi connection you could experience lag and sync issues. This app is a data hog taking up a ton of bandwidth.

I am a big DragonCon fan. I have been 5 times in the last 10 years. I am going again this year so I downloaded the updated DragonCon app to get organized. I love to be organized.

This app is great. It tracks all the different events and updates every time you open it to make sure your data is always current. It also lets you create a customized schedule with just events you are interested in. My favorite part is that they added all the hotel maps (DragonCon takes place in 4 separate hotels in down town Atlanta) into the app. Now you don't have to keep the paper copies to find a panel location. It also has full write-ups on all the celebrities that are attending the Con.

Apple has solved complaints about itunes (in part) by making a new app dedicated completely to podcasts. The number one complaint Apple gets is itunes sucks. It is hard to shop and it takes up way to much memory. Looks like Apple is going to separate online shopping into different apps instead off the 'all eggs in one basket' approach of the past.

It is an elegant app. Easy to use with lots of features. It makes streaming a breeze so you don't have to download every podcast especially when connect via Wi-Fi. 

I really liked  the station feature which lets you browse podcasts like radio stations. Give it a try! You can't beat the price.
