MicroProse is my favorite all time video game publisher. It was a video game publisher and developer, founded by Wild Bill Stealey and Sid Meier in 1982 as Microprose Software. How can you go wrong when you are founded by the Godfather of all strategy video games? The MicroProse brand is currently owned by Interactive Game Group.
In 1994 they published a revolutionary strategy video game called XCOM. It is a squad tactics game combined with resource management. The player runs the XCOM organization protecting the Earth from alien invasion.
18 years later the game is recreated as XCOM: Enemy Unknown. A complete re-working of the original with all the new additions 18 years for computer evolution allows. Great voice acting, action scenes rendered by the Unreal game engine, and fully customization of your soliders just to mention a few.
As someone who spent literally hundreds I love the re-make. The user interface on the original was a disaster. Way too many clicks to do the simplest things. The interface on the updated version is a masterpiece. It is almost invisible and completely seamlessly integrated. Bravo to the designer!
If you like strategy games I highly recommend you try the new XCOM. From the creepy sound track and nail biting action you will be in geek heaven. Enjoy!
